Use & Care

CARE

  • DO NOT OVERINFLATE.
  • Deflate to wash, use warm soapy water to clean. Lay flat to dry.
  • Deflate when not in use. Leaving the product inflated permanently may cause the material to thin and become weakened, which may increase the risk of puncturing the product when in use.
  • Avoid using products like Simple Green, Lysol wipes, bleach and other harsh detergents on any of your inflatable balance products.
  • Do not store on a stand. This can affect the quality of the Peanut by producing wear marks which may become weak areas.

USE

  • Consult with your veterinarian/physical therapist to determine the best treatment plan.
  • Do not leave your pet unattended when using the Peanut. This product is not a toy and is meant for rehab and fitness use only.
  • Do not store in sunlight or extreme temperatures, this can change the durability of the Peanut. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or heat, such as heaters, lamps, fireplaces, etc.
  • Before each use, check the exercise area and your clothing for sharp objects that may puncture or damage the Peanut. Always use the exercise equipment in a large, open room to reduce the risk of injury or puncturing the product.
  • DO NOT use on abrasive surfaces.
  • Avoid direct contact with ink printed material as the ink can transfer and mark the inflatable products.
  • DO NOT patch or repair punctured equipment.
  • Product is intended for indoor use only.

INFLATION

  1. Always inspect your FitPAWS products for damage. Creases and folds are normal since it will come folded, but any snags or tears will prohibit you from inflating properly.
  2. Allow time for the inflatable products to get to room temperature. If the material is too hot or too cold it will not inflate properly. We strongly recommend inflating the product to 80-90% and then let the product sit for 24 hours to stretch. You may find that after 24 hours you can inflate slightly more.
  3. DO NOT OVER INFLATE. FitPAWS Balance Products should be filled according to size, but there can be variances. If you find that you cannot inflate the product to the indicated size without tension, do not inflate further. Let the product sit for 24 hours and try again to inflate to the desired size.

For best performance, you should be able to depress the surface easily, approximately 2” with your fingertips, soft to the touch. Any inflatable that is stretched too tight has the potential to burst. Please pay attention to the surface tension of the products. If it is too tight to the touch, reduce the air and let the product sit for 24 hours before using.

Please note that maximum sizes noted are ONLY a guideline. If the products, for any reason, appear to be too tight and do not inflate to maximum height, or are hard to the touch, then STOP - DO NOT inflate further. Release air and allow the product to sit overnight before use. Actual sizes slightly vary.

Rehab Protocol

EXERCISE BASICS

  • Ensure your dog is healthy to begin exercise. Consult your canine health professional before beginning this or any exercise program.

  • Always check for proper body alignment while performing exercises. Watch to ensure back and neck are neutral. Front limbs and hind limbs should support weight safely. Avoid over extension of limbs, neck, and back.

  • Perform an equal number of exercise repetitions on both sides of the body.
  • Start slow and build up. 3-5 repetitions is adequate for dogs beginning an exercise program.
  • Never over-exercise or over-tire your dog. Always watch for and listen to signs of tiredness or exhaustion.
  • We recommend your dog use a safety harness, while exercising on the equipment.

The TRAX Peanut can be used as a stand-alone rehab tool or used as a dynamic tool with other FitPAWS rehab equipment.

You may find it easiest to introduce your pet to the TRAX Peanut by using the FitPAWS Targets. Place the Targets on the Peanut to encourage your pet to put their paws on the Targets. Alternatively, simply introduce your pet to the Peanut and positively reinforce the pet when they place one or more paws on the Peanut.

Core Conditioning

To use the TRAX Peanut for Core Conditioning, have your pet step up onto the Peanut with all four paws. Encourage them to shift their weight from front to back or side to side.

NOTE: You must measure your dog to ensure that the Peanut is the appropriate size for them. An incorrect size Peanut will cause your dog to have poor paw position and will force their back to hunch. When they are standing in a neutral stance, measure the distance between their front and back paws.

  • Up to 20” stance length = Yellow 40 cm
  • Up to 24” stance length = Red 50 cm
  • Up to 30” stance length = Blue 60 cm
  • Up to 41” stance length = Yellow 70 cm (only available in Original Peanut)
  • Up to 46” stance length = Red 80 cm (only available in Original Peanut)

Weight Bearing Exercises

Weight bearing activities are activities where the dog is partially standing on the ground and partially on the ball. Have your pet place either their front paws or back paws on the Peanut, encourage them to shift their weight forward and backward or side to side.

NOTE: You must measure your dog to ensure that the Peanut is the appropriate size for them to maximize their exercise potential. An incorrect size Peanut will cause your dog to strain themselves and may cause discomfort or injury. When they are standing in a neutral stance, measure the distance from the floor to the top of their withers (shoulder blades).

  • 16”-19” wither height = Yellow 40 cm
  • 20”-23” wither height = Red 50 cm
  • 24”-27” wither height = Blue 60 cm
  • 28”-31” wither height = Yellow 70 cm (only available in Original Peanut)
  • 32”+ wither height = Red 80 cm (only available in Original Peanut)

FAQs

WHY FITPAWS FITNESS?

FitPAWS Canine Conditioning Equipment is the #1 brand of fitness and rehab equipment for dogs! The combination of physical and mental exercises is absolutely critical to a well-balanced dog. FitPAWS Products are a great way to exercise your dog mentally and physically at the same time. FitPAWS Products  combine dog-specific equipment that provides fun dog fitness that you can do at home, outside, in a rehab facility, or anywhere that you need it!

What is the difference between the TRAX Peanut and the Original Peanut?

The TRAX Peanut and Original Peanut are both great rehab tools designed for dogs. Both versions of the Peanut can be used for the same exercises at the same Intensity Levels. One difference between the Original and TRAX Peanuts is that the TRAX Peanuts come in a smaller size, ideal for small to medium dogs. The TRAX Peanuts also have sensory nubs which aid in grip and neural stimulation. The Original Peanut does not have these nubs but still has a non-slip surface so it's safe for your pet to stand and exercise on.

IS THE trax peanut A GOOD BEGINNER BALANCE TOOL?

With the use of extra stabilization tools, the TRAX Peanut can be used for beginners. The TRAX Peanut is a large balance tool that is shaped for pets to stand on with either two or four paws at a time. Due to the round shape of the Peanut, it can be unstable at times, which is beneficial for high Intensity Level session, but can be scary or unsafe for beginners. We recommend that you use the Circular Product Holder or placing two objects on either side of the Peanut to increase the stability.

WHY DO I NEED TO TRIM MY DOGS NAILS BEFORE USING THE TRAX Peanut?

Your dog's nails must be trimmed before using the TRAX Peanut in order to reduce the chance of puncturing the equipment. If your dog's nails are too long or are sharp, then the nail may puncture the product when they jump onto or off of the equipment. This poses a risk to both you and your dog as the Peanut may deflate quickly and could scare and/or injure your dog. We recommend that you always trim your dog's nails before using the TRAX Peanut and assist your dog when mounting or dismounting the balance equipment.

ARE FITPAWS REHAB TOOLS GOOD FOR PUPPIES?

FitPAWS products are perfect for helping get rid of a puppy's excess energy, while giving them a beneficial physical and mental ‘job’ by engaging them in new games, tricks, and behaviors. Many of the FitPAWS tools are low-impact and you can start training your puppy with them as early as 8 weeks, starting with 3–5 minute training sessions. Improving your puppy’s core strength, confidence, and body awareness puts them on track to living a longer, happier, and healthier life. A more active lifestyle strengthens your puppy to help prevent future injuries and benefits their overall well-being.

WHAT CAN THE trax peanut BE USED FOR?

The TRAX Peanut is great for balance training and muscle building. The stability of the Peanut can be changed depending on the amount of air you put in it. Less air creates a more unstable surface and a higher Intensity Level. More air creates a more stable surface and a lower Intensity Level. Your pet can use two or four paws on the Peanut at a time to change the Intensity Level and engage different muscles during the session.

WHAT DO THE SENSORY NUBS DO AND WILL THEY HURT MY DOG?

The sensory nubs should not hurt your dog, though some dogs may not like the feeling of the nubs since it is a new sensation. They are made of the same flexible material as the rest of the product and will slightly compress when your dog stands on them. The sensory nubs aid in sensory input for your dog, meaning they help your dog feel what is under them more than they would with a smooth surface. They also help with paw grip when using balance products.

HOW LONG WILL THIS PRODUCT LAST?

With proper care, this product should last 1-2 years. However, you should always check the equipment before and after each use to ensure there are no signs of excessive wear. Always replace the equipment if there are any signs of wear, if the product won't inflate, or if the product deflates during use.
